The Legacy at Home recognizes volunteer for meaningful service.
Devon Collins spent most Fridays during the 2023–2024 year supporting hospice patients through The Legacy Senior Communities. For his dedication, he was recognized as the 2024 Hospice Volunteer of the Year.
The Legacy hospice system includes three components — The Legacy Willow Bend, The Legacy Midtown Park and The Legacy at Home — and is composed of a team of professionals and volunteers.
A dedicated and compassionate volunteer, Collins has worked under the supervision of Heather Rey, receiving extensive initial training and participating in regular ongoing sessions to enhance his performance. What made the experience most meaningful, however, were the warm and personal connections he formed with his three clients. Each week, their smiles and everdeepening relationships brought joy to both giver and recipient.
Staff members and clients’ families have described Collins as kind, responsible and deeply valued. His grandparents, Zelene and Robert Lovitt, expressed pride in his recognition and his efforts to make the world a better place — as did the staff and residents of CHAI (Community Homes for Adults, Inc.), where he lives.
