
Howard Michael Shapiro, 76, passed away on Sept. 14, 2021, in Dallas, surrounded by loving family.
Howard was born to Leonard and Roma Shapiro on January 26, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan. After graduating from Detroit Country Day School in 1962, he attended the University of Michigan where he first earned his BA in history in 1966, and later his medical degree in 1970. He went on to pursue an accomplished career in neuroradiology.
He met the love of his life, Linda, in a Jewish photography club in Chicago in 1978, and they married on July 8, 1979. Their first years of marriage were in Chicago, and they moved to Dallas in 1983. They had four children, Deborah, Murray, Samuel, and Rebecca.
Howard loved spending time with his family and would plan regular trips to visit extended family in Chicago and Detroit. He was an avid tennis player and regular swimmer. He enjoyed engaging with the local Jewish community on Shabbat and holidays, film festivals, book fairs, and other special occasions. In his later years, he pursued genealogy research and dedicated much time, effort, and resources to the pursuit of uncovering his family’s story. He will always be remembered for his intellect, warmth, and generosity.
Howard is survived by his wife, Linda; his brother, Kenneth; his children, Deborah, Murray, Samuel and Rebecca; and his grandchildren, Noah, Lily, Nathan, and Hannah.
A graveside funeral service was held on Sept. 17 at Restland Memorial Park, Mount Zion in Dallas. The service was officiated by Rabbi Zelony of Congregation Beth Torah. The family would like to thank the community for the outpouring of love and support.
