Shabbat parade lifts JCC preschool community’s spirits
When the J closed March 15, the faculty and families at the Goldberg Early Childhood Center did not realize that this would be the last time that they would see each other in person for the remainder of the school year. The faculty pivoted quickly and took everything virtual. GECC Director Tara Ohayon could tell that the families and staff needed a boost and so the Shabbat Parade was born! Families were invited to decorate their cars and drive the parade route through the JCC parking lot while the faculty stood outside, 6 feet apart in masks with signs, created out of love, in their hands. The waves, quick conversations, blown kisses and tears of gratitude were flowing from all of the adults while the joy of the children stole everyone’s hearts. GECC mom Brett Unell said it best, “That was seriously the best thing ever and exactly what our souls needed. I was so emotional seeing everyone for the first time in two months and realizing how much we need each other. Thank you so much for that perfect parade.”
