Macy Gutow prepares for the June 2025 Gaga’s Butterflies program.
The Legacy Midtown Park continues to foster intergenerational engagement through initiatives like “Gaga’s Butterflies” — a monthly program led by local teen Macy Gutow in memory of her late grandmother, Rebecca Ruskin, a beloved former resident of the senior living community.
Affectionately known as “Gaga” by her family, Ruskin was renowned for her heartfelt gestures on birthdays and holidays — decorating doors and leaving encouraging notes for loved ones. Even after moving to The Legacy, she made it her mission to uplift others, particularly those without nearby family. With the help of fellow residents, she would decorate doors for neighbors celebrating special occasions or recovering from illness, spreading positivity throughout the community.

“Rebecca had a big impact on the community and always went the extra mile to make us feel special,” said Susan Sereboff, a resident of The Legacy Midtown Park. “We love that Macy is continuing her legacy. Rebecca would be so proud of her.”
Named in honor of Gutow and Ruskin’s shared love of butterflies, Gaga’s Butterflies was established to continue Ruskin’s tradition of celebrating others. Each month, Gutow delivers cookies, handwritten cards and goodie bags to residents on their birthdays, taking time to visit and connect with them personally. As a teen mentor with the Dallas-based service organization The Lemon Aide Society, she includes her mentees in the effort. Together they prepare the treats and help distribute them to residents.
“After my grandmother passed away, I wanted to continue her tradition and still give back to The Legacy,” Gutow said. “That is how Gaga’s Butterflies was born.”

Gutow developed the initiative with support from Rivae Campo, volunteer engagement manager at The Legacy Midtown Park, and Debbie Weinstein, director of The Lemon Aide Society, which maintains a long-standing partnership with The Legacy.
“Gaga’s Butterflies is a perfect example of how The Legacy empowers residents and families to stay connected and make a difference,” Campo said. “We’re honored to help Macy bring this program to life. It’s a beautiful continuation of the community spirit her grandmother helped create here.”
The Legacy Midtown Park plans to expand Gaga’s Butterflies into its memory care and assisted living programs, deepening its commitment to creating a connected and compassionate environment for all residents.
