Susan Sutker
It is with heavy hearts that her family announces the passing of Susan Levine Sutker, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Susan was born on Oct. 16, 1951, to Joseph and Betty Levine in Chicago, Illinois, and passed away on July 14, 2024, in Dallas.
Susan, known affectionately as Sooze, Susie or Grandma, was a compassionate and selfless individual who always put the needs of others before her own. She had a passion for cooking and baking, often delighting those around her with her culinary creations. Whether it was dropping off food for a sick friend or spending time with her family, Susan’s kindness and generosity knew no bounds. She was an incredible hostess and her house was the central hub for family and friends’ gatherings. Most holidays, she would host a minimum of 40 people, but make food for 100 and somehow, she did it entirely by herself.
Educated at the University of Illinois, Susan graduated in three years with a degree in education. She found joy in simple pleasures like reading, solving puzzles, Sudoku and playing board games with her loved ones. Susan had a love for travel and particularly enjoyed spending time by the water, with Hawaii holding a special place in her heart. Her favorite place to be was with her grandchildren as they brought so much joy to her life.
Susan was a devoted member of Shearith Israel and embraced her Jewish faith throughout her life. She shared 51 years of marriage with her loving husband, Allan Sutker, and cherished her children, Jennifer Sutker Lazarus (Joey) and Michael Sutker (Liz), along with her grandchildren, Landon Sutker, Madison Sutker and Louie Lazarus.
Please consider making a donation in her memory to the American Liver Foundation (liverfoundation.org).
Susan Levine Sutker will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her kindness, warmth and unconditional love she shared with those around her. May her memory be a blessing to all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
