Temple Emanu-El celebrated its community and the completion of a historic expansion and renovation with Sunday at The Picnic, a full day of fun, food and friendship.
The event began with a dedication ceremony in Olan Sanctuary, then spilled out to all corners of the campus with activities for all ages. Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings jammed Sweet Caroline with Loui Dobin and the GFC Garage Band, but not before he won a prize on the Hebrew Cake Walk. The event celebrated the success of Our Temple | Our Future, the capital campaign that raised more than $38 million to create the new spaces and renovate existing ones in the 60-year-old building.
Those spaces include the contemporary, light-filled Stern Chapel, a new office wing, a new wing for the Early Childhood Education Center and the Tycher Gathering Space, the social nerve center of Temple.
