Howard Sanford Herskowitz
Howard Sanford Herskowitz, a lifelong learner, community leader and beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on Dec. 11, 2024, in Dallas. He was born on Sept. 8, 1942, in Albany, New York. Howard’s life was defined by his insatiable thirst for knowledge, his commitment to contributing to meaningful causes and his unwavering love for his family and friends.
Howard grew up in Albany, where he graduated from Albany High School and discovered his passion for mathematics. He was the first in his family to attend college, earning a degree in management engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He furthered his education with a master’s degree in industrial engineering from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. In Houston, Howard met his wife, Greta Schoenbrun, and they shared 55 years of marriage. They settled in Dallas, where they built a home and raised their two daughters, Julie and Nicole.
Howard had a distinguished career, working in operations and product management roles at AT&T and Boeing before transitioning to sales at various technology companies, such as Mohawk Data Sciences, Four-Phase Systems, Ungermann Bass and Dell. An entrepreneur at heart, Howard also pursued other business ventures, such as owning rental properties and starting a business brokerage company with his wife. Ultimately, he returned to his mathematics roots and found his true calling in financial investing.
Howard was a dedicated leader in the Jewish community in Dallas for over 50 years. He served in key roles at Jewish Family Service of Greater Dallas, including as president. He was also actively involved with Echad as president and board member, the Jewish Federation and the American Jewish Committee as a board member and the Community Homes for Adults, Inc., where he supported the organization in many ways, including leading the facilities committee.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Sara Herskovitz, and his wife, Greta Herskowitz. He is survived by his daughters, Julie (Michael) Schulman and Nicole Herskowitz (John Lamb); grandchildren, Ella Schulman, Samuel Schulman, Chloe Lamb and Audrey Lamb; and his brother, Robert (Helene) Herskovitz.
The family kindly requests sending donations to the Greta and Howard Herskowitz Endowment Fund at the Community Homes for Adults Endowment Foundation, 11615 Forest Central Drive, Suite 100, Dallas, TX 75243; Jewish Family Service of Greater Dallas; or a charity of your choice.
