Game on y’all. Dallas is hosting the 2015 Maccabi Games from Aug. 2-7, 2015.
About 500 people attended the Maccabi kick-off event at the Aaron Family JCC Sunday, Sept. 28. Those in attendance learned about how to be a volunteer, host family, or athlete in the games.
At the event, a countdown clock was started in the lobby and will be there until the games begin.
Dallas last held the Maccabi Games in 2005. It takes the entire community to work together to put on an event like this, requiring the commitment of over 1,000 volunteers and 700 host families.
Team Dallas took home roughly 34 medals from the Maccabi Games in Boca Raton, Florida this summer. Next year’s team will be comprised of more than 200 athletes and star reporters from the Dallas area, along with 40 coaches.
Tryouts begin in January for baseball, basketball, track and field, swimming, golf, soccer, dance, volleyball, table tennis, tennis, bowling and flag football. To be eligible, teens must be between the ages of 13 and 16 by July 30, 2015.
The 2015 Dallas Maccabi Games co-chairs are Dan Prescott, Ruthie Schor and Wendy Stanley.
